Browns Moving On from Nick Chubb

Future of Running Back Position
General manager Andrew Berry stated that a reunion between the Cleveland Browns and free agent running back Nick Chubb appears increasingly unlikely. This statement comes in light of the Browns drafting two new running backs during the NFL Draft, thereby altering the dynamics of the team's rushing attack.
Chubb's Career with the Browns
Chubb, who ranks third on the Browns' all-time rushing list, has not signed with any team since becoming a free agent. After dedicating seven seasons to the Browns, he now faces challenges due to recent injuries. The team has added Quinshon Judkins from Ohio State in the second round and Dylan Sampson from Tennessee in the fourth round, signaling a shift in strategy for the running back position.
Assessment of Chubb's Condition
Berry mentioned that while he maintains contact with Chubb and his agents, communication has diminished following the draft. The running back is in recovery from a significant knee injury that limited his play last season. Chubb participated in only eight games last year, averaging 3.3 yards per carry, a career-low, and observed notable struggles after contact.
Impact of Injuries
Despite these setbacks, Berry remains optimistic about Chubb's recovery, noting the broken foot he sustained last season has healed and is not currently a concern. Prior to his injuries, Chubb was a top performer, achieving over 1,000 rushing yards for four consecutive seasons, with a peak of 1,525 yards in 2022.
