
Torres Triumphs at Desafío Nerja

Impressive Victory
Gladymar Torres of Puerto Rico claimed a significant victory in the 100 meters at the sixth edition of the Desafío Nerja in Málaga. Torres completed the race with a time of 11.23 seconds, finishing ahead of Spain's María Isabel Pérez, who clocked in at 11.31 seconds.
Historic Achievement
This triumph marks a milestone for Torres, who recently became the first female athlete from Puerto Rico to reach the semifinals of the 100 meters at the Olympic Games. She currently holds the national record in this event with a time of 11.12 seconds, set in Paris.
Competition Highlights
The event featured other notable performances, including Grenadian athlete Paola Almazán, the Andalusian champion, who finished third with a time of 11.81 seconds. Additionally, German competitor Belén Fritzsche matched Almazán’s time to secure fourth place.

In various other races, the under-23 athlete Aleix Vives posted a time of 13:47.79 in the 5,000 meters, while Dominican Anabel Medina recorded a 52.79 finish in the 400 meters. Lorea Ibarzabal completed the 800 meters in 2:02.15, and Carlos Sáez followed closely behind Nuno Pereira in the 1,500 meters, finishing with a time of 3:35.19. Rubén Leonardo achieved 8:37.51 in the 3,000 steeplechase, and David Barroso secured an 800 meters time of 1:45.27.
