Jazz Fined for Player Benchings

The NBA has imposed a $100,000 fine on the Utah Jazz due to their decision to keep star player Lauri Markkanen out of recent games. The league cited a breach of a policy that restricts teams from excessively resting players deemed essential.
Markkanen did not participate in the game against the Washington Wizards and missed several other recent matchups. Following the announcement of the fine, the Jazz confirmed that he would return for their game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Game Highlights
In his return, Markkanen played against Memphis at FedExForum, where the Jazz fell 122-115, marking their seventh loss in a row. The Grizzlies, currently in playoff contention, showcased their strength with Luke Kennard scoring 30 points.
Despite the outcome, Markkanen contributed 14 points and six rebounds in about 28 minutes of play. Collin Sexton led the Jazz with 22 points, showing a glimmer of competitiveness as they briefly took a lead late in the game, but ultimately fell short.
Season Outlook
The Jazz have been struggling this season, now holding a record of 15 wins and 51 losses. There are reports that the team's strategy includes a desire to remain near the bottom of the league standings in order to secure a favorable position in the upcoming draft.
Utah's focus will be tested further as they prepare for their next matchup against the Toronto Raptors while the Grizzlies look to extend their winning streak against the Cavaliers.
