Samuelsson Stays Focused on World Cup
Holiday Health Concerns
The holiday season is a unique time for athletes like cross-country skiers and biathletes. While many are focused on training, some are also trying to stay healthy. Hanna Öberg experienced cold symptoms while spending time with teammate Martin Ponsiluoma. Fortunately, they had a two-bedroom accommodation, allowing them to keep some distance from each other.
Managing Illness
Ponsiluoma felt he managed his health well despite the situation. He mentioned feeling a bit off but took extra time to rest. He reassured fans that it was nothing serious. He reflected on the challenges of being exposed to illness during this busy time, noting that many teammates fell ill over Christmas.
Samuelsson's Commitment
For Sebastian Samuelsson, the holiday was filled with training. He spent around 40 hours on his treadmill, although he had to cancel one session due to extremely cold temperatures of minus 25 degrees. This dedication shows the commitment athletes have as they prepare for the Olympics. Despite the advice from SVT’s expert Björn Ferry to skip Nove Mesto for high-altitude training, Samuelsson is determined to compete. He believes that missing the chance to fight for the overall World Cup title would be unwise.
Long Road Ahead
The national team is set to be on the road for nearly six weeks, continuing their training until after the Olympics. Hanna Öberg mentioned the importance of packing wisely, as they will have a lot of equipment for the games. She feels confident that her mother will take care of their home while they are away, ensuring that their plants are well looked after.
