Germany to Host Handball Championship 2027

The German Handball Federation (DHB) has officially taken over the hosting duties for the Men's Handball World Championship 2027. This transition was marked by a ceremonial flag handover from the International Handball Federation (IHF) during the closing event of the 2025 Championship in Oslo, Norway.

During the award ceremony at the Unity Arena, IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa presented the championship flag to DHB President Andreas Michelmann. This event symbolizes not only the excitement surrounding the upcoming tournament but also the responsibilities that come with hosting such a significant sporting event.
Anticipation for 2027
Michelmann expressed that the 2027 Men's World Championship is expected to be a highlight for handball enthusiasts, stating that the tournament will serve as a beacon for the sport. He emphasized the importance of various activities surrounding the championship aimed at promoting handball across Germany.
Venues for the Championship
The championship, scheduled for January 2027, will take place in six cities: Munich, Stuttgart, Magdeburg, Kiel, Hanover, and Cologne. These venues will host a total of 32 teams competing for the title.
Upcoming Women's World Championship
Before the Men's Championship, Germany will co-host the Women's World Championship with the Netherlands, starting on November 26. This event will take place in Stuttgart, Trier, and Dortmund, showcasing the country's commitment to promoting handball.
Future Events in Handball
In addition to the 2027 Men's Championship, the DHB will partner with France to host another Men's World Championship in 2029. Following this, the Men's and Women's European Championships are scheduled for 2032, with Denmark and Poland also participating in the latter.
